What Device should I use?

Whatever you have. You need a device to stream online lessons. You can use a desktop computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone, however larger screens are better.. Headphones are a good option also but not noise cancelling. Please be sure that your device is charged or plugged in during your online lesson, and you have a secure wifi connection.

Consistent Wifi and High Speed Internet

Your internet speed should be at 5mbps upload and download speed. If you’re not sure what your internet speed is currently you can check by going to  https://broadbandspeedtest.ie/

Video Calling/conferencing Software

Please download calling software (Skype or Zoom) to your device for online lessons.

https://zoom.us/

We can also use another platform like google hangouts or whatsapp.

Let me know what your username is prior to the first lesson so I can add you as a contact. We can also schedule a few minutes before the lesson time or at another time prior to ensure our setups are all ready for the first lesson.

Instrument & Stand for Device

You need your instrument during online lessons. Make sure that your instrument is ready to sit at and well lit and ready to play, and your video is set up in the optimum position and everything is fully charged and /or plugged in.

Please find a stool/desk/chair/book stand/music stand, something steady, to place your device on and prop up if needed. The device should be positioned so I can clearly see you and the instrument. If using a tablet/smartphone use a tablet stand or have it securely propped up. Good positions to start placing the camera is on the right-hand side slightly above waist height pointed towards at the keyboard showing the hands, wrists, arms and shoulders clearly or as much as possible.

Lesson Materials

I have many different lesson resources and sheet music which I can send on by email or messenger (FB, Instagram) they can be printed out or kept on another device to read the sheet music off. You can also purchase your own copy of the resources we use in lessons. Any music you would like to learn either send me a copy of the music or a link to the music prior to the lesson.

Be sure to have these ready to go before your lesson time begins so we can get started right away.
