My name is Trudi, and I’m a private music & piano teacher. I work out of Truly Musical, a music school based in Arklow town, Co. Wicklow.
I offer Piano lessons, Junior Cert and Leaving Cert music grinds, Music Theory lessons and Musicality lessons.
I began taking Piano lessons at age 5 and instantly fell-in-love with the piano, the music I could create, and the emotions I could express through it. I would, to this day, remain forever enchanted by the piano — and the joy I received from learning to play.
I completed my Grade 8 Pianoforte Exam with the Royal Irish Academy of Music (RIAM), and attended Queen’s University in Belfast to study classical music and performance. At university, I developed an interest in business and finance, which ultimately led me into accountancy. That same passion placed me first in Ireland in my ACCA CAT exams, and subsequently, I spent 10 years working with multinational corporations based in Ireland.
But during my professional life my love for music never waned — and slowly but surely I found myself drawn back into the world of music. My passions were always music and education, creating the same experience for friends, students and my nephews that I had experienced myself all those years ago when I began.
So in late-2018, despite success in the accountancy profession, I went out on my own to begin Truly Musical. I completed the Royal Irish Academy’s Certifications in Music Education, jointly taught between RIAM and Trinity College Dublin, in the fall of 2018. And after many years of preparation, during which I researched, tested, tweaked and obsessed over creating lesson plans — I have some simple ideas about music education:
1. Making music should be at the heart of every lesson, and students should discover and explore their musicality from many different perspectives.
2. Every lesson should include elements of improvising, composing and creatively teaching music. This keeps lessons fun, interesting and my students constantly progressing.
3. I encourage students.
4. I teach them that music is important and it’s everywhere in our everyday lives; music is for everyone.
I look forward to sharing my love of music with all my students,
Trudi
